Al Asmus, Jeff Engholm and I had a trio for about one year at the turn of the millennium. We did one album that drifted into obscurity called “Three Piece Suite”. I have the utmost respect for those two musicians. The trio was difficult to maintain as I lived in the Twin Cities area and the other two were St. Cloud residents. This tune was the only foray into this kind of groove with that trio. Most of our material and the album we did was in a more contemporary jazz feel.

We had not rehearsed this one much that is why you hear me say “coming up” at the end of my solo to let Al and Jeff know the “head” is coming up again.

I think Gary Schulte (violin), Matt Senjem (bass) and I did play this tune “live” a few times.

The late great jazz broadcaster Leigh Kamman was fond of this tune.
