There are several recorded versions of this song including a solo guitar version but I like this one because it seems the closest to my original intention. It stands up as a recorded artifact on its own and is not just an improv vehicle.
The song is basically a Musette waltz with a couple of bars of 2/4 thrown in. And those bars are not thrown in at random. I was jogging in the woods near my house one day and the circuitous route of monarch butterfly caught my attention. That suggested rhythm influenced the shape of the melody.
