For about 7 years in the early 2000s, I had a weekly Sunday night gig on East Hennepin Avenue in North Minneapolis. We also played there on other nights as well during that period including a few New Year’s Eve gigs. Consequently, a lot of time was spent playing music in that locale near the Hennepin Bridge. I essentially wrote this piece for that gig.

Audiences used to really like this song probably because it is primarily “up-tempo” and “bouncy.” Personally, I wasn’t all that keen on it after a while. I came to see it as too “vanilla” but time has distilled that attitude and now it comes back to me with some added “effervescence.” In other words, time has put it all in better perspective and I can appreciate it in a new way.

This is a problem I have had my entire career as an itinerant minstrel. I tend to distrust any easy success no matter how small which is a sort of mania and not helpful in the long run.

After a protracted period where I have not heard it, I can see it has a certain charm. I very much acquaint this music with a certain time and place and the people and musicians I shared that time and place with. So, the nostalgia that surrounds the music now enhances it.

In an effort to share something new with listeners I thought I would pull out this old chestnut and see if it still had any effect.

Be careful. Stay safe.
