“Grey Chalet” is what we named our house of 37 years now for the simple and obvious reason that it looks like a ski chalet and the house is grey. This is a jaunty little tune but personally I would play my improv solo a bit differently these days. As you get older as a player (especially in the improv bits) you start to see that you don’t need to fill every space. This is a long and hard lesson learned because of the ever present fear the performer has of losing the attention of the listener. It’s not that I care less now about “entertaining” the listener it is just that with maturity “serving the music” becomes the priority.
I like the acoustic bass sound Mike Zeleny got on this one. Mike is an old friend from St Cloud. It’s hard to believe that this recording Is now nearly twenty years old.
Stay well.
