This song always puts me in mind of a regular Saturday afternoon gig I had with Sidewalk Cafe (a trio I still perform with). The gig was at the Midtown Global Market on Lake Street in Mpls. We had that gig for quite a few years.
This song has a nice lilt to it and is appropriate for the title. Though it is one of my older original tunes it remains pretty durable and I still play it on gigs and most probably will when gigs resume this summer.
Like many of my songs it has a notable simplicity and brevity with a few harmonic twists that make for some subtle surprises.
For me a short piece still requires considerable thought and work. Lots of “pruning” is needed. Mark Twain once said, “I apologize for such a long letter – I didn’t have time to write a short one.”
