I don’t play or write Blues tunes often. This is an exception. I am joined by my usual cohorts, Michael and Matt, and on this piece, Doug Haining. Consequently, this recording is quite unlike much of my recorded output but I like it for that very reason.
This was one of several songs meant to be on the third East Side album with harmonica player Clint Hoover. But Clint moved to Pittsburgh and we recorded several things with Doug instead.
I have always found it difficult to improvise on a Blues song in a way that satisfies me. It is difficult to play Blues without a barrage of cliche licks. Though I love how people like Hank Mobley or Wes Montgomery can really make something out of the Blues. However, on this particular tune, I did improvise a solo I can more than live with.
Enjoy the rest of summer.
Be kind.
Love,
Reyn
