(If the subject heading for this blog seems cryptic, please check out the lyrics at the bottom of this page.)
The subject matter is a common one for me: the proverbial “is life random or design” question.
I tried to create a “hipster” mood and scene. I was thinking of a vibe not unlike some Greenwich Village beatnik cafe in the 1960’s.
To my mind there is also a Leonard Bernstein influence here too. That is- the more “Broadway” or “West Side Story” Bernstein as a composer. The “gang” vocal refrain, the big finger-snaps etc. all point toward a “beat-era” musical. Personally, I dig Bernstein’s music.
(I’ve been thinking about Leonard Bernstein a lot lately because I’ve been listening to his music and reading his biography written by Humphrey Burton.)
“Simplicity”
Is this life random or is it design?
Is it all just by chance or a heavenly sign?
Pondering these questions leave no result
Just adding injury to the insult
I want
I need
Give me, give me
Simplicity
Are we all praying or just mumbling words?
Are we getting through or is this just absurd?
Pondering these questions leave no result’
Just adding injury to the insult
Be kind.
Love,
Reyn
