As I have said before, the earliest exposure to recorded music I had was in my preschool years when I would play my mother’s records on our little brown Zenith Record player. I played 45RPM single records by Hank Williams, Johnny Cash and especially early Everly Brothers.
Though my personal musical path took a different direction in terms of genre I still appreciate the simple poetic aspects of that more “Americana” tradition and on several occasions quite naturally have wandered into that territory.
The lyrics presented here are a difficult message to put across but one that I think is needed right now. It’s very tricky to convey anything like a “spiritual” message. Still, I wanted to try it.
(The refrain/chorus of the song is intended to have a sort of “mantric” effect.)
I have always appreciated the many songs about universal love that The Beatles propagated. George Harrison also quite overtly turned to more “spiritual” lyric subjects and introduced the world at large to Indian music and Eastern religious philosophy.
It’s a very fine line to walk between trite and profound. My own beliefs wander into more Eastern traditions about these things though I did have more than 12 years of Roman Catholic education which may have some small part in that development.
At any rate, I quite sincerely believe in the ideas behind this song though my own behavior doesn’t always reflect that conviction. I am, however, constantly working on it.
Be safe.
Be kind.
Love,
Reyn
