(I wanted to drift a bit toward the humorous aspect of existence just about now because the day to day reality can be harsh and down “right” oppressive.)
This recording is kind of a “Swampy” and minimalistic Louisiana country blues.
It’s amazing how a groove can shift you ”into character” and the vocal becomes a sort of acting job. (I don’t even realize I’m putting on a voice or accent until I hear it back). Randy Newman is very adept at the “singing-acting” performance.
I still really like something about this song and production. It’s as “real” as it gets in terms of direct unadorned simplicity.
By the way, I have since this recording changed the lyric (see below) to “I went to see the doctor” for obvious reasons.
Use headphones.
Stay safe.
Be kind.
Love,
Reyn

“No Nothing”
So I went to see the doctor and the doctor said
“Just a couple of rules to follow ‘less you want to wake up dead”
“No sugar, no sweets,
No liquor, no meat,
No fried food, no salt,
No butter you know its bad for your heart
No tobacco
And no chocolate
No soda pop,
Not one little sip”
(Solo)
No coffee, no tea,
No sex, you know what I mean,
No excitement and just one more thing,
Enjoy Yourself.”
