There are several versions of this tune that I have recorded. This is probably the closest to the zeitgeist of the “French musette”. That is mainly due to the addition of violin and accordion. The normal waltz time (3/4) of the typical musette is offset here in the melody with occasional bars of 2/4. This time change came about innocently and without premeditation, because when I fashioned the melody I was attempting to musical describe the circuitous flight of a monarch butterfly I saw while on my daily jog. It was only after I sketched out this melody that I saw that the bars of 2/4 were interspersed.
I, for one, can’t wait for this winter to end so I can observe some more butterflies soon.
Be safe.
