“Butterfly” is basically a “musette” waltz with an occasional bar of 2/4 added in the main theme. It was inspired by the circuitous flight of a monarch butterfly that I observed during my daily jog in the nearby woods. Monarch butterflies are associated in some cultures with rebirth and spiritual awakening and given how these things have been on my mind a lot within recent years this association is not lost on me.
This song exists in several recorded versions because it is by far the most popular piece I have written thus far. This is the most recent version. There are also two solo guitar versions and three or four recorded versions done with small groups as well. In all I think there are seven different recorded versions.
